Detailed ability breakdowns

These signature abilities now fire in battle with their own damage and cooldowns — a bigger skill or ultimate hits harder, and the two healers restore HP instead of striking. Still on the way here on the site: the full per-ability breakdown (exact multipliers and effects), plus deeper mechanics like status effects and multi-target hits.

Lore

The Royal Guard formation is not a single unit but a five-soldier wedge that the Solstice Empire's household-regiment discipline-rolls record as one tactical entity, named on the field by the wedge-leader's surname rather than by individual numbers. The current wedge-leader is Halberdier-Sergeant Olin Verres, second-generation household, his father Aldur Verres having served the same wedge in the previous campaign and trained him in the wedge-step from age eleven. The other four — Renn, Sevi, Marcas, Daro — were assigned in his second year of leadership and have not been rotated since, an unusual stability the household-regiment quartermaster has flagged twice as a logistical irregularity and twice declined to actually correct.

The wedge's combat discipline is not innovation but rehearsal: the same forty-six halberd movements drilled to a precision that other Empire units find unnerving to stand near. The wedge does not break formation under fire because the wedge has been instructed that breaking formation is not on the list of permitted movements; this is interpreted by Empire field-officers as a doctrinal extreme rather than a literal procedural rule, but the wedge has not in seven engagements offered an alternative reading. Olin's halberd carries a notch for each engagement; the haft has six notches at present, and Olin will not accept a replacement haft until the campaign closes, on the grounds that 'the haft is now part of the wedge and the wedge has not granted permission for its replacement.'

The wedge stands picket on the imperial line under the operational authority of General Thalia Crowe (char_thalia_crowe) during southern deployments, and Olin has expressed in regimental-private discussion a quiet preference for Crowe's command style over the Court-Mage office's. The wedge has not yet stood under direct Court-Mage orders; the Empire's deployment-clerks have not explained why this assignment has been deferred, but Olin has not asked.
