Detailed ability breakdowns

These signature abilities now fire in battle with their own damage and cooldowns — a bigger skill or ultimate hits harder, and the two healers restore HP instead of striking. Still on the way here on the site: the full per-ability breakdown (exact multipliers and effects), plus deeper mechanics like status effects and multi-target hits.

Lore

Eagle Eye learned the bow from her grandmother, who hunted the high passes for thirty years before the Vanguard had a name for what she was. The first arrow Eagle Eye drew at full pull missed by a hand's-breadth; the second one missed by half. The third one didn't miss, and her grandmother — who had not spoken in a week — said only, "Now you know which mistakes cost you the next animal." That phrase is in the front of her notebook today, copied in her own hand.

In the field she is not a soldier in the way the Watch trains soldiers. She is a falconer who has gotten tired of working through a bird. Her doctrine is to find the ridgeline before anyone has decided the battle is real, then to spend ten or fifteen minutes there reading the wind, the pollen, the way grass leans when something heavy walks downslope. The Marking Arrow she fires from that ridge is a courtesy: it tells her own line where to expect the engagement. The Horizon Rain that follows is a working — six arrows held in a left-hand quiver, drawn one after the other into a shaped pattern over a target box she has marked in her head.

She has resisted every promotion she has been offered. The Vanguard's command structure rewards officers who lead from the front; her grandmother's lesson was that the front is the worst place to learn what's about to happen. There is a quiet argument running between Eagle Eye and a Vanguard major over whether her current posting is being wasted at the Hedra ridge or being correctly used; she has been ordered to the front line twice this season and has, on both occasions, returned with intelligence that made the order moot.
